There are two ways to handle gear teeth. One is the double-sided method for processing large gears, and the single-sided method for processing small gears. When using the former method, the radius of the cutter head on both sides of the large gear tooth is different, and the helix angle at the center point is also different, so the bottom groove of the large gear will cause the cutter head of the small gear bottom groove to have a too small misalignment distance, which will affect the strength and life. The latter method will not produce the above situation when processing gears, but the processing efficiency is relatively low. Correct meshing can only be ensured through various gear correction calculations. Only when the axis of the cutter head is perpendicular to the root cone of the machined gear can the root surface be developed correctly. Therefore, the tooth profile angle of the gear is modified to be symmetrical to the pitch line, but this also results in an increase in head gauge and number.
